Though superheroes are often seen as the de facto genre/stories/characters within comics, ENG 325’s only engagement with the term & construct came through reading El Deafo by Cece Bell late in the semester. In this vein, these students’ 1pg comics reflect two radically different approaches to understanding — and articulating — the notion of the superhero, both informed by their own experiences and our classroom’s discussion within the Graphic Medicine unit.
