Graphic book reviews: When Stars Are Scattered by Omar Mohamed and Victoria Jamieson (colors by Iman Geddy)

This comic served as the ending to our children’s and young adult comics section, with students poring through Omar Mohamed’s story rendered beautifully by Victoria Jamieson and Iman Geddy. In particular, we spent much of our discussion working through the backdrop of starry skies, how they often reflect dual moments of uncertainty & clarity for Omar. Only two students created graphic book reviews of this comic, as we were nearing completion of the 4pg mid-term comic due the following week. However, Gwen and Sutton’s comics here each represent not only the class’s increasingly nuanced handling of our primary texts, but their own individual growth as critical artists.
